Hunter S. Jones - The Next Big Thing
Let’s start off today’s by giving a big shout out to Lucy Pireel for nominating me as
The Next Big Thing and for inviting me to this blog hop. Thank you so much! This
is my virgin experience at blog hopping and I am enjoying myself immensely-probably
enjoying myself a bit too much, as usual, but that’s okay. It’s very flattering
to have one’s work recognized by your peers.
My name is Hunter S. Jones, author of Fables
of the Reconstruction, my debut novella. It is an historical fiction
concept of zombies based on the Creole and Haitian voodoo stories. It sheds a
whole new light on the zombie topic, so I have been told by the aforementioned
Ms. Pireel in her fabulous review of Fables of the Reconstruction on
Amazon.com.
Hercules Publishing calls Fables of the Reconstruction
“A New Genre” which is the greatest compliment a writer could or would ever
wish to receive. The iconic musician, Gerg Anidem, on his Empower Radio
Show, endorsed Fables by saying the book is “Erotic. Exotic. Hypnotic!” How cool is that?
Here’s a bit about me. I have always been a writer,
mainly covering indie rock bands, fashion and a few historical and artistic features
along the way. I do not know why I write, it is just an intrinsic part of my
nature. Sharing the sensation and the experiences of my life are rewarding. Incredible
imagination – you bet! I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia but my formative
years were spent mainly in Nashville, Tennessee. Many things could be revealed
about me and my life. However, nothing you will ever learn about me is as
interesting as the art form I create. It is wonderful that you want to learn
more about my life and my writing. The fact that you are reading this blog promoting
me as The Next Big Thing is thrilling.
Now, I want to take this opportunity to introduce some of
my favorite authors. You may already know some of them and others may be new to
you. Either way, it is definitely worth your time to take a look at their latest
work:
Steve
Christie, author of Good
Deed, a great Scottish crime novel. This is Steve’s first novel and you
will be impressed by how well it is written.
Laura
DeLuca, with whom I share a delicious secret, is your next
need-to-know author. We can let you know more about our secret in the next few
weeks. She just released a book this week, and it is named Morrigan.
GL
Giles, co-author of Unputdownable
Tales of Terror.
E.
R. Pierce has a fun series you’ll want to read, Eating
Out. This is one hot lunch.
Author
Nicole Hill. Have a look at Legacy
Forgotten (The Avalon Legacies)
Have a look at their latest work, purchase and also check
out their blogs next week.
Now,
let’s get on with it and talk about my debut novella and my own ‘little
monsters’ as I lovingly call them.
What is the title of your book?
Fables
of the Reconstruction. You can find it only on Amazon.com and only in ebook
format. Buy it today and make me happy.
Where did the idea come from for the book?
Fables
of the Reconstruction is based on a series of dreams. I wrote this book while I
was under an intense amount of physical pain following Achilles tendon surgery.
Whether you like the book or not will depend upon your personal taste and I
accept that. For me, this little book has given me a creative outlet to place
all the pain and fears I experienced during and after surgery. Creative writing
kept me from the depression that generally haunts everyone who has to undergo
Achilles reattachment. I hope you enjoy reading Fables of the Reconstruction
half as much as I enjoyed the experience of creating it.
What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal,
Erotic Fiction. I chose to call it Rock Romance. Maybe
you could call it Historical Romance, Alternate History, Dark Fantasy or
Horror. You can decide once you read it.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in
a movie rendition?
Pierre
von Minzle is definitely Jack White. If Jack isn’t available, then I will consider
Johnny Depp. I can imagine Charlize Theron playing Mary Montague. As for Polly
Poppet, I believe Dita von Teese would be fantastic. George Wilson of the
Buffalo Bills would be perfect as Jean Paul Rouselle or Waka Flocka could play
him, too. They’re both in Atlanta, so maybe I’ll mention it to them. I’ll let
you know what they say.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Fables
of the Reconstruction is the story of a Belgian pimp in Victorian London who
has a ‘magic’ powder and claims to be undead.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an
agency?
I
currently self-publish.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your
manuscript?
The
completed first draft of Fables of the Reconstruction took about six weeks. The
ideas and the concept presented themselves easily enough however, the
historical and supernatural content took substantial research.
What other books would you compare this story to within
your genre?
I
really don’t have an answer to this question.
Who inspired you to write this book?
I
had repeating dreams about the main character. I came to realize that his story
needed to be told.
What else about your book might pique the reader's
interest?

lla. This is certainly a book intended for adults, but the writing is solid and intelligent, and the story interesting, particularly within the context of Whitechapel and the era represented. I recommend Fables for any fan of zombie fiction, historical romance, erotica, and just plain fun(adult)reading!

Stop Breaking Down
I have lived my life excessively, probably too excessively. I am a complete extrovert, more in keeping with the personality traits of Hemingway, Fitzgerald and my namesake Hunter S. Thompson rather than the reclusive, introspective writers such as Lovecraft and my personal hero, Anne Rice.
I want the experience of living, always have. As a person that has always grabbed the bull by the horns, I now find that I can no longer even get a peep at either the bull or the horns for at least another tow or three months.
Wednesday the doctor discovered that my Achilles hasn't attached properly following my surgery earlier this year. Just when I was beginning to walk and drive, I find out that the entire process has to begin again. Luckily, I drove to Tennessee for a few days last week and enjoyed the sunshine and gorgeous Autumn weather before getting the news. My partner and I even had sushi one afternoon. It was great.
Now, I have to undergo the anguish for a second time. What is my lesson here? Is there even a lesson or is it just a cruel twist of fate? It's not the surgery I dread as much as the pain involved in the aftermath. Pain doesn't produce great art, pain produces the desire that makes you wish you could find anything to help you escape the pain.
Oh well, I won't think about that today. I'll think about that tomorrow.

Special thanks to the entertainment offered by The Rolling Stones and Jack White in the writing of this blog.

All Down The Line
We're gonna open up the throttle yeah
We're gonna bust another bottle yeah
All down the line.
Jagger/Richards
It's on - Fables of the Reconstruction is a done deal. Let's
just check, line by line, what's been accomplished the last few months to get
this baby out there:
- Fables is actually completed, edited and formatted. No small feat that.
- At least 30 interviews have been scheduled or completed.
- One blogger said my interview brought in almost double the usual views for a first time indie author. Kewl.
- Blurt Magazine, the music magazine musician's read, will feature Fables of the Reconstruction in their quarterly print edition - the first time they have promoted an indie author. Kudos to them for being pioneers of all indie artists!
- Creative Loafing Atlanta is giving Fables a shout out AND an editorial spotlight is pending. Wow. People love it when a Southern girl writes a book about paranormal erotica.
- The first critique of Fables has been received and the email beautifully said "Original and fascinating." The thought, as an artist, that someone found the work to be original is truly the greatest compliment ever.
- Guess I'm actually an artist now. I understand how authors, musicians, actors and painters receive inspiration through dreams, coincidences, and random thoughts - and how they translate the concept via their art.
I have a secret. Stay tuned and I'll let you know a bit more
in November.
Thank you to everyone that has supported and encouraged me
throughout this amazing process. I love you all. You know who you are. xoxo

Torn & Frayed
So much has happened in the last few hours. I wanted to
write everything down because I may not remember all these feelings later.
First, I couldn’t decide on ‘Happy’ or ‘Torn & Frayed’.
Since I was torn--so to speak--over the title for this blog, that made the
decision. Oh, for any of you that aren’t Rolling Stones fans, Exile on Main
Street is one of the best albums of all time. No offense intended to any of my
great musician friends--I believe it’s the best rock and roll album of all
time. It’s the inspiration for Exile on Peachtree Street. All my blogs are
titles of the songs on Exile on Main Street.
Any of you that know me or follow my blog know that I
started writing my book because I suffered a severe Achilles tendon tear which
required extensive surgery. My Achilles tendon has been rebuilt. I have been in
a leg cast and immobile for months. The doctor ended the pain pills long ago.
How to get through the pain?
Well, write a book of course. I can’t walk, I can’t drink
and until a few weeks ago I couldn’t even fuck, so might as well let my
imagination run wild, right? You have to come up with some way to pass the time
of day. You can’t just sit around, as the old saying goes. The other old saying
is the idle mind is the playground of the devil. Both sayings are appropriate,
considering the circumstances.
Off I go on the book writing journey, armed only with an
idea, the book’s title and two characters. The book was completed last week and
here’s what happened in the last few hours. Yesterday I connected with my
badass editors. I like their style. They ripped Fables from one end of hell to
the other. I’m totally cool with it, as long as it makes my creation as entertaining
as possible for the readers. Both editors get the plot and the characters. I
trust them. The manic rewrite has begun.
Good news followed by more good news. Earlier today the
surgeon took me out of a leg cast. The shock of seeing a twelve inch scar from
my ankle up my calf will never leave my mind. The doctor calls it my racing
stripe. I really is cooler than having a tattoo, because you gotta be one tough
bitch to get a scar like mine. The good news you ask? I walked today for the first time in months.
I don’t consider myself an emotional person. Today I cried tears of sheer joy.
Sure, I’m in a walking cast and on crutches, but who really cares? I am back on
my feet. Oh no, another cliché although it is appropriate.
The doctor encouraged me to go out.
“Go out?” I say, “As in
go out to dinner or for a few drinks?”
“Yes, go out.”
Those three words set me free.
My sweet partner wants to go to a posh wine bar and enjoy a
romantic dinner. That sounds nice but we’ve been trapped together for months.
You know what sounds like heaven? There’s a guitar bar in Midtown Atlanta. It’s
my favorite place in town because it reminds me of Nashville. On Friday nights
you can show up, bring your guitar and have a $2 beer. It’s loud, noisy and I
can’t wait. I’ve been away much too long. Oh, all the sexual mischief I can get into, now that I'm free. I'm inspired.
Another saying we have here is good things happen in
three’s. Join the sexy and talented Kharisma Rhayne as she interviews me today
at www.kharismarhyne.com.

the guitar plays

Tumbling Dice
Good morning, it has been a while. I have missed you. My book is in final edits and will be released soon, very soon. That is taking most of my time and that is why I haven't been blogging.
I have been sharing Facebook, Twitter, blogs and now Pinterest with you so that anyone who wants to have a peek inside the world of indie publishing can join me as I have written 'Fables of the Reconstruction'. It has been an interesting journey. I have made some great friends and discovered that the indie writer world is not that different from the world of indie music. However there are artistic differences.
Where indie music may have alcohol and drugs, indie writers appear to have alcohol, prescription drugs and children--a dangerous combination indeed. Where musicians have a duality of nature, one of which is the guy or girl next door and the other which takes the stage to become our rockstars, indie writers develop a series of personas, depending on which genre of writing they are exploring.
Writers are entertaining beyond belief! I have laughed until crying, cried uncontrollably at the suffering of loss experienced by another person, and watched fights breakout, all based on verbiage! It is fascinating! Most writers seems to get their ideas from tapping into a great cosmic unknown. It's as one writer explained, the story was given to her by the universe and she was allowed to write it. We tap into a vein of creativity, much like a miner finds a gold vein or a junkie finds a vein for their fix. On a personal level 'Fables' is based on a dream I had and as the book unfolded, the characters and plot developed on a subconscious level. Completely remarkable!
Then, there are the psychics or empaths. We apparently have to have guides to assist in what we are experiencing as the psychics come into play to explain what we have created and why. Some amazing empaths have crossed my path this week. One lady knew exactly what my writing habits are, and even knew insights into my personal life, which I never reveal. I have been fortunate enough to connect with a Voodoo madame. I have had a gentleman post on my book's page and outline why I am going to hell. (As I was schooled in strict Baptist schools, this is not the first time I have heard it.) All this bodes well for 'Fables', I do believe. The last two months have played out before my eyes like a Fellini film and I love it! In a past life, most writers must have been circus performers and we understand that the show must go on, as long as we document the experience.
As for 'Fables of the Reconstruction', I am beginning the marketing strategy now. The beautiful and talented Kharisma Rhayne, owner of No Boundaries Press will be interviewing me--my virgin interview--on Tuesday, October 2nd. Check us out at www.KharismaRhayne.com.
Fortunately, as a first time author, I have over 10 interviews scheduled in the next few weeks. A publication is picking up the story of 'Fables of the Reconstruction' in mid October. I have been invited by one of Atlanta's top magazines to be one of the Most Beautiful People in Atlanta. It's all very exciting, but more than saying something about me, it speaks of the new power of the indie writer. The indie writer is the new pioneer of the artistic world.
As for "Fables of the Reconstruction', I am beginning to have Hemingway moments. It seems that Hemingway agonized over his books every time he turned one in to be published. Not that I am in any respect on the Hemingway level--far, far from it! Just like he always did, I now believe I have written the worst book every written. But, you know what? I wrote a book. I am now an author. Not everyone can say that. I feel brave and crazy, all at the same time. Some people will like 'Fables', others won't.
It's all a roll of the dice baby, a roll of the dice...

Let It Loose...Bedroom Blues
"Take the shine right off your shoes....Carryin' the bedroom blues..." Jagger/Richards
It had to happen one day. My male 'muse', my inspiration,
and my partner in sexual adventure and I have decided to go our separate ways.
My mind is still reeling from the aftershocks. However, it is something we both
know has to be done. Everyone has to grow up at some point in their lives. Even
though we have been lovers twenty years or so, losing him has left me
shattered. We live different lives, in different cities but we have always had
a physical connection that neither of us has been able to ignore. Not that
either of us ever really wanted to ignore it. We have to give each other up
because Peter is a dad now and I have a partner as well. We don't want anyone
to get hurt.
I met Peter 20 some odd years ago. I can't tell you his
occupation or what he looks like, but I will let you know we met in a hotel
bar. When he walked in the room my body had a physical reaction. Everyone in
our group was celebrating his engagement, even though it was the first time I
had met him. As the night went on everyone left. Peter and I remained at the
bar. Nothing was said until I looked at him and said, 'If you will break your
engagement for one hour, you will never regret it.' His response? 'Let's go.'
As soon as the elevator doors closed and we found ourselves
alone, we couldn't take our hands off each other. If elevators have a group
equivalent to The Mile High Club, I am now a member. That wasn't enough. Peter
and I had sex in the mezzanine lobby outside the elevator before we made it to
his room. We still aren't certain how we managed that, unless the guys working
the security cameras were just completely shocked and mesmerized.
Peter always said we didn't have a physical attraction to
each other, we had a chemical reaction to each other. I was completely in love
with him but he explained that it was only sex. Only sex. That was why merely
hearing your lover's voice made your body weak with desire. We have an
addiction to each other. We were lovers, sexual confidants and we were our own secret. Everyone needs a secret.
Peter did get married the year after we met. The day after
he returned from his honeymoon he called me and we met each other for a night
of sex. We only saw each other occasionally but the passion, the desire for
each other has always remained. Once, I was in Amsterdam visiting my then fiancé.
As fate would have it, Peter was in town as well. My fiancé and I had just
returned to my hotel room following dinner. There was a knock on the door. It
was Peter. I would tell you what happened next, but you'll just have to read the
book one day. There are so many other escapades to relate to you, but I would
rather not think about them right now.
I have never liked to say good-bye, I prefer to say see you
later. But now I have to say good-bye to my favorite libertine and my fellow
sexual adventurer. My muse is free. I wish him light, love and happiness
always. Everything that ends is only the beginning of something new. Our
interlude is like everything in life--the ending always happens too soon.
After Peter and I talked on the phone this morning I have
looked for many different ways to distract myself. I've written this blog,
played with my various social media outlets, watched three Jack White videos,
wrote a magazine article and took one look at my latest zombie creation . The
Jack White segment of the day did make me feel better, I have to admit.
In one month I have had my accident, ankle surgery and now
this. Everything happens in cycles of three so my life seems to be on cycle,
changing as the seasons change. Another chapter will open soon.
Peter and I did agree it would be nice to see each other one
more time. I'll let you know what happens...

Exile on Peachtree Street
It has been one week since my ankle surgery. My real life
remains mine, so I won’t tell you what the exact surgery was, however I will
share with you that it wasn’t for anything life threatening-just life style
threatening. And, now all the good drugs are gone…well the opioids at least. I
will be confined to our condo for at least six more weeks. So, here I am, right
in the middle of Hotlanta, and I can’t go anywhere. It will probably be four months before I can
actually begin anything close to what was once my normal life. The doctor says
it will be a year before I return to normal activities. Whatever that means…
What these last few weeks since the accident have given
me is the opportunity to create, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity for
me. I have always written something, anything for anyone interested in
publishing my stories. It just wasn’t my career. Now, I have the unique
opportunity to explore through words what has always been lurking in the murky
depths of my subconscious. I had absolutely no idea that I was so sick and
twisted. I am one sick pup and it is great fun! Let’s just say I have been
influenced by Anne Rice and Edgar Allan Poe much more so than Margaret
Mitchell. I probably listened to a band called The Cramps a bit too much when I
was a kid, too. Having a family cemetery probably figures in there somewhere,
as well. But, those are all stories for another day!
One avenue I have been able to explore during my ‘Exile
on Peachtree Street’ has been the world of the indie writers. Having spent the
years of my incredible, folly filled youth in Nashville, I have long been
accustomed to the camaraderie of the indie music scene. Now, I have discovered
that the indie writer’s scene is just as creative and supportive as our
musically inclined indie friend’s community. The outpouring and encouragement I
have received to write anything, with no line being drawn on my creative sand,
and without anyone messing in my creative sandbox, has been nothing short of a
revelation, a veritable epiphany after my time spent in corporate America. The
same concept applies with Facebook. I am enjoying my new found friends and I am
truly amazed at the guidance and encouragement offered. It’s remarkable how creative
a person can become when there are no guidelines.
One fun thing that has happened this week is my adventure
into the world of Twitter. First warning, a person with ADD who is on opioids should never, never, ever, never, ever, ever go on Twitter. However, this
little journey has landed me almost 1000 new friends in less than one week.
Let’s just say, I appear to be famous among German rock bands, so a least
someone understands me! (It really just reinforces my belief that women should
connect with men that do not speak the same language, since men never seem to
understand what we are saying anyway.) There again is another story for another
day…So back to Twitter, the support of indie writers and publishers has been
over whelming. It’s a beautiful thing. It really is. The writing community seems
to understand, as do our indie alternative music friends, that name recognition
is the first name of the game. It’s been a fun week on Twitter, and one that
has made me laugh through an otherwise excruciatingly painful week. Now, I just have to figure out what a Shout
Team is, how I got on one, and how to share in German.. That should be easy
enough. Gawd…
Anyway, by Halloween I should have my first three short
stories available. Who knows, maybe if I listen to Lux Interior sing ‘Life is
short, filled with stuff, don’t know what for…’ one more time, I may have the
book completed by Halloween…that is, if I can get off Twitter long enough to
actually write something!
Stay tuned for the next exciting update and enjoy the
August Blue Moon...oh, thank you for taking the time to read my first official blog.

Today
'...tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow..' William Shakespeare
The 'Blog' is being built, and will not be available today. However, it will soon be posted on a regular schedule...let's say on Friday's. Not to worry, this is to be the musing of my imagination, so there's no children, no family issues, or any distractions of the political or religious realms. However, I am open to offers. I you want to connect with an idea and see where or how my minds bends it I can develop a fun romp and post it here. Let me know what you'd like to see, Jonesers.
Cheers y'all~
